This article explains how to open a PayPal account in Nigeria, which can be used as one of the country’s payment gateways.
PayPal is the most popular online money transfer service in the world, with hundreds of millions of people using it to send and receive money.
Additionally, PayPal does not provide vendors with your complete financial details. In addition, PayPal Buyer Protection protects you if your qualified purchases don’t arrive or don’t match the description.
Nigeria had been barred from PayPal for years due to our reputation for internet-related fraud. PayPal has now relaxed limitations on Nigeria since fraud detection systems have improved, as has Nigeria’s perception as Africa’s largest economy. It’s easy to open a PayPal account, and there are two ways to do so.
Nigerian Requirements for Opening a PayPal Account
1. You’ll need a valid email address to begin.
2. You will also require a Visa or MasterCard that is linked to a Nigerian bank account. It’s possible that this is a credit or debit card. This is required for your PayPal account to be verified. The service would deduct a small amount from the card, and the account would be fully verified once you confirmed the transaction.
3. Finally, as of December 2018, the Verve card from Interswitch does not work with the service.
PayPal Website
PayPal’s Registration Page
1. Go to www.paypal.com/ng for the first step.
2. Then select “sign up” from the drop-down menu.
3. Enter your email address (it doesn’t have to be a Gmail or Yahoo account). [email protected] is a possibility.)
4. Type in your password and double-check that it’s one you’ll remember.
5. Continue to the next page and fill in the remaining information, including names, dates of birth, addresses, and phone numbers.
6. When filling out your address, make sure it matches the information you provided when you opened your bank account.
7. You are directed to a page where you must enter your debit card information.
8. Enter your card number, expiration date, and the last three digits of your debit card.
9. Finally, go to your email account and click on the “Verify” button.
10. Congratulations!! Your account has been created.
11. Finally, put it to the test by sending $10 to anyone or to your PayPal account in a foreign country (if you have one)
12. Your account is debited in Naira, and your local bank should send you an alert.
Using a Wallet
This service is provided by First Bank as part of an exclusive agreement with PayPal. What is the mechanism behind this?
1. First, use your password and token to log in to your internet banking account.
2. Then, in the main tab, select “PayPal wallet” and select “Create PayPal Wallet” from the drop-down menu.
3. Next, choose which cards you want to link to your PayPal account, as well as which card will be the default. To make reconciliation easier, try utilizing just one card.
4. Confirm your online token by pressing the button on it.
5. In the pop-up window that appears, create a password.
6. Select “Agree and Create Account” from the drop-down menu.
7. Finally, check your bank’s registered email account for confirmation that you’ve created a PayPal account.
It’s crucial to know that you can’t accept money from a Nigerian PayPal account right now, but there’s a short workaround I can show you.
How to Receive PayPal payment from Nigeria
To begin, go to the country where you want your PayPal account to be based.
www.paypal.co.za is the website for South Africa.
It’s www.paypal.com/us in the United States.
It’s www.paypal.com/ls for Lesotho.
…and more, depending on your preferences.
Second, select the business option and enter your company and personal information. Please choose INDIVIDUAL BUSINESS for the business details. Then you’ll be asked to provide your legal identification number, such as your NIN or passport number.
You should use your personal information exactly as it appears on your bank statement. Fill in your personal information, double-check it, and proceed to the next page.
If you don’t know anyone in the country where you want your account to be registered, look for faux credentials in the yellow pages of that country and use them alongside your genuine credentials in the personal data section.
Third, confirm your email address and use a credit card to increase your PayPal limit.
You can get a functioning card from UBA or the Wema by Alat card, both of which have proven to be reliable. It can be used to verify your PayPal account and raise the limit.
Finally, to activate your account, send some dollars to it to test it. You can now receive cash from freelancers via PayPal, and your account is ready to go.
If you’d want to receive payments from outside the United States, please look into other options.
