How to Delete Facebook Notifications

Facebook’s reputation for spamming people has grown. You receive several alerts from the smartphone app. Every day, dozens of emails arrive. And you should expect to receive a ton of brand-new notifications each time you enter into the online app.

Thankfully, things don’t have to be this way. Here’s what you need to know if you want to know how to entirely disable Facebook notifications, erase Facebook alerts, or clear Facebook notifications.

How to Delete Facebook Notifications

The most crucial issue to address first is how to remove Facebook notifications.

Use the detailed methods below to remove a Facebook notice from the web app:

  1. Navigate to Facebook.com and log into your account.
  2. Click on the Notifications bell in the upper right-hand corner.
  3. Find the notification that you want to hide.
  4. Click on the three horizontal dots alongside the notification you want to delete.
  5. Select Remove this notification.

On the mobile app, the procedure to erase Facebook alerts is comparable. Open the app, then select the Notifications tab. Tap the three dots and select Remove this notification after finding the alert you wish to delete.

How to Clear All Facebook Notifications

You should remove your unread alerts as soon as you log into Facebook and find a mountain of them there. The red dot representing unread alerts vanishes when you click the bell icon.

You haven’t actually resolved the issue, though. When you receive a new alert, the alerts will automatically reappear if you don’t clear them. You must mark every notice on Facebook as read in order to permanently delete it.

Strangely, the smartphone app does not allow you to delete unread alerts without first clicking on each one. Instead, you must carry out the procedure using the web application.

Follow the instructions below to mark all of your Facebook alerts as read:

  1. Head to Facebook.com and log into your account.
  2. Click on the Notifications icon in the upper right-hand corner.
  3. Click on the three horizontal dots.
  4. Select Mark all as read.

How to Turn Off Facebook Notifications

The following two sections should have made it easier for you to manage your current Facebook notifications. But just half of the battle is won there. In the future, you must take care to avoid being bothered by all of that notification spam; else, you’ll find yourself right back where you started.

There are two approaches to the issue. As they come in, you can choose to disable notifications for a specific category of alerts, or you can use Facebook’s Settings menu to take a more comprehensive approach.

How to Turn Off Facebook Notifications as They Arrive

The procedure for deleting Facebook notifications is the same as the procedure for disabling Facebook notifications as they come in.

To understand more about the procedure via the online app, follow these steps:

  1. Type Facebook.com into your browser and log into your account.
  2. Click on the Notifications icon in the upper right-hand corner.
  3. Find a notification that you want to turn off.
  4. Click on the three dots.
  5. Select Turn off notifications of this type (the exact wording may change depending on the type of notification).

(Note: You will also have the option to turn off all notifications from this page if you are turning off notifications from a website.)

By launching the app, tapping on the Notifications tab, and choosing the three dots next to the relevant notice, smartphone users can view the same list of possibilities.

How to Turn Off Facebook Notifications by Category

You may disable alerts of any kind if you delve into the Facebook Settings section (e.g. birthdays, people you may know, events, pages you follow, etc).

A notice that you had previously disabled using the first technique we outlined can also be re-enabled using the menu.

Use these detailed instructions to disable Facebook notifications by category:

  1. Go to Facebook.com and log into your account.
  2. Click on the down arrow in the top right-hand corner.
  3. Choose Settings and Privacy > Settings from the dropdown menu.
  4. In the panel on the left-hand side of the page, click on Notifications.

A list of every notification category is now visible to you. Expand the area and make the necessary modifications to disable a certain kind of notification. Some notification categories may be disabled with a single toggle, while others (like Groups) give you precise control over which groups you wish to disable individually as well as control over email and SMS notifications.

It’s also important to scroll all the way down to the section labeled “How you receive notifications.” You can choose the browser and email notifications you want to get from it. If you don’t want to modify anything, you can choose to receive Facebook’s suggested alerts, but you’ll still likely receive too much spam as a result.

How to Stop Facebook Notifications on iOS

If you have an iOS device, follow these steps to stop Facebook notifications:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Select Notifications from the menu.
  3. Scroll down to Facebook and tap on the entry.
  4. At the top of the new window, slide the toggle next to Allow Notifications into the Off position.

More Ways to Make Facebook Work for You

One method to make Facebook work for you is to take back control of your notification settings. Yes, there is some micromanagement required, but it’s worthwhile to make the effort to make Facebook more beneficial than bothersome.

This is applicable to a large portion of the Facebook experience; the more effort you put into personalizing the app, the more fun it will be for you.
