If your answer is yes, then we have good news for you and your friends.
The good news is that we are pleased to inform you and the general public that the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies invites degree students from Harvard University’s graduate and professional schools to apply for The John H. Coatsworth Latin American History Fellowship for the academic year 2020-2021.
For those of us that would want to know, let me stress here that the John H. Coatsworth Latin American History Fellowship was established to honor the legacy of John H. Coatsworth, the founding Director of the David Rockefeller Center and the former Monroe Gutman Professor of Latin American Affairs at the prestigious Harvard University.
Who Can Apply For This Scholarship?
The scholarship is open to doctoral students whose research focuses on topics related to Latin American history, with preference to, but not limited to, those in the History Department.
The fellowship will provide a stipend toward living expenses and can be used while undertaking research on campus or in the field.
These fellowships will support either a single semester or a full academic year of research.
However, it is important to note here that summer-only projects are not eligible.
Eligibility: Current doctoral students and Ph.D. candidates at any of the graduate or professional schools at Harvard are eligible to apply if they have completed at least one full year of graduate study at the time of their application, but these fellowships are normally held in the fourth or fifth year. Students in their first year of graduate study at Harvard are not eligible to apply.
Recipients must obtain approval if they wish to accept other grants, fellowships, or teaching assignments during the same time period.
The David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies reserves the right to adjust the amount of an award if fellows have received other funding for the same time period. Fellowship funds are not renewable or deferrable.
Qualifications: Candidates for the John H. Coatsworth Fellowships are evaluated by the following criteria:
• Outstanding academic record;
• Standing in the academic department and graduate or professional school;
• Feasibility and quality of the proposed research and impact on progress toward the degree.
Application Requirements:
The online application requires the following materials:
• Fellowship Application Form
• Curriculum Vitae or Resume
• Statement of Purpose
> In a short essay, not to exceed 1,000 words, please describe your project, outlining the scope and purpose of your research,
where you are in your research process, where this project fits into your research, and when you expect to do your writing year.
At the end of your statement, please include a simple timeline of your project.
• One letter of recommendation written by your advisor.
> The letter of recommendation should be on university letterhead and bear the signature of the recommender.
• Transcripts from all graduate programs
