Corps Members #30,000 Minimum Wage To Be Paid Soon

On the lingering purported N30,000 minimum wage which is to be paid to corps members, the DG, Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier-General Shuaibu has come up to say that the scheme have not been issued a directive from the Minister of Finance to start payment.

It will interest you to know that the NYSC Boss made this known to the public while addressing reporters in Abuja yesterday after the opening of the NYSC management meeting with representatives of state governments.

He, however, stressed that he was sure corps members would benefit from the new wage.

According to him, key responsibilities of state and local governments, as spelled out in Section 7, Sub-section 3 and 4 as well as Section 8 of the NYSC Act, included provisions of befitting orientation camps, accommodation for corps members, land for agriculture, the security of corps members, the release of state subventions, among others.

Shuaibu further stated that the Federal Government shouldered the expenses of running the scheme through feeding and medical services of corps members, payment of allowances, among others.

Sunday Dare, the Minister of Youths and Sports Development, on the other hand, charged state and local governments to create an enabling environment for corps members.

Dare stressed that NYSC had immensely contributed to the socio-economic, political and cultural development of Nigeria.
